Do you have any questions about playing TRIO? Here are our answers!

(If it helps, generally speaking, if it’s not in the rules, you’re trying to cheat :clin_d'œil: )

In general :

  • A card can only be revealed if it is on the table or at the end of a deck: i.e. either the smallest or the largest. A card in the middle of a deck (including its own deck) is NEVER, EVER revealed. You have to wait for the card to be uncovered from one of the sides.
  • When two revealed cards are different: the player’s turn stops immediately and the cards are put back where they came from (on the table or in the opponent’s hand).

I’ve just won a TRIO. Do I play again immediately?

NO, it’s already great to have a TRIO! The next player must play.

I have a TRIO in my hand. Can I put it down?

Ex 1: My hand is the one on the left.

NO, because the “2s” are not my smallest or largest cards.

Example 2: My hand is on the right.

YES, I can put them down on my turn because the “2s” are my smallest cards: I put down the first “2” because it is my smallest card, then the second because it is my smallest, then the third because it is my smallest. And I win the TRIO.

I have the TRIO of “7” in my hand! Have I won?

NO, not yet! The TRIO of “7” is like the others, it has to be accessible to be played (see previous question).

I have revealed 2 different cards but I know where the other cards identical to the 2nd number revealed are: can I make a TRIO?

NO. The rule clearly states that when two revealed cards are different, the player’s turn ends IMMEDIATELY. You will have to wait until the next turn if the cards are accessible and have not been stolen beforehand ;)

During my turn, I have revealed two identical cards (from a player’s hand or from among those on the table). Can I take the 3rd card from my hand to make a TRIO? Example: I have revealed two “11” cards.

Ex 1: My hand is the one on the left.

NO, because the “11” is not my highest card (nor my lowest).

Ex 2: My hand is on the right.

YES, because the “11” is my highest card. I can reveal it and I win the TRIO.

Can I make the TRIO of “7s” at any time?

If the three “7s” are accessible (on the table or at the end of your hand or the hand of other players): YES!
In all other cases: NO. You will have to wait until all the “7s” are accessible.

Can I make a TRIO with none of the cards in my hand? (If I have found 3 identical cards in the other players’ hands and/or on the table).

YES, if you manage to find three identical cards in your opponents’ hands or on the table, you win this TRIO! Well done!
This is one of the reasons why you can continue to play when you have no more cards in your hand (you simply have less information than the others).

Do we have to do the trios in order? That is, do we have to wait for trio “1” to be found before doing “2” and wait for “12” to be found before doing “11”?

NO, there is no order to the trios. The only rule is that the cards must be accessible at the ends of the players’ hands or on the table.

When a player is asked for his highest card, if he has two copies of the same card in his hand (e.g. two “12s”), must he reveal them both at the same time?

NO, ONLY ONE card is revealed at a time: so the player who is asked for his card only reveals one, the one at the end of his deck. You have to ask him a second time what his highest card is so that he reveals his second identical card (as it will then be at the end of his deck).

Can two cards be revealed in the middle of the table?

YES, of course, and even three if the first two cards turned over are identical.

Can you ask one player for his largest card and then ask another player for his smallest (and vice versa)?

YES, as long as the requests are made one after the other! You can even ask the same player for his smallest card and then his largest.
